AKO AY FILIPINO
Yesterday on my way home from Ramkhamhaeng, I overheard 3 people talking in Tagalog and we ended up on the same van going to The Mall Ngamongwan. One sat beside me, her name was Suzzette. I initiated the conversation which ended up talking about life back home in the Philippines and being here in Thailand. She just came here in Thailand last March and landed a job in RAM, Nonthaburi Project. We talked and agreed much about the difference of lifestyles and cost of living here in Thailand and Pinas. She was asking, why could Thailand give all of these benefits to their citizens and our country can't. Our country was way beyond Thailand 25 years ago. I saw this book in our library. It was "Thailand and Philippines Go Beyond" In the pictures, it was evident that Manila was growing while the Bangkok pictures were so "yet undeveloped." Then how come we seem to be "so behind" Thailand now? Yes, that's the main point of this blog. Why?
My new friend and I agreed on the same answer to this question, CORRUPT PHILIPPINE GOVERNANCE!!! Oh, yes, definitely. Do you believe our country will ever change? Personally? No, I don't think so. CORRUPTION has taken its' roots deep down into our POLITICS and no, I don't think there will be change. No, I don't think Philippines will ever go anywhere from here on. I believe it'll be more of going down. Prices of basic commodities go up everyday. High cost of living. Low wages. No wonder Pinoys are into this abroad thing.
Now, I fully understand why those OFW's in Libya before never wanted to go home despite of the war. I could relate to them now. It's all the same thinking "Anong gagawin namin dun sa Pilipinas? Mapapakain ba ng gobyerno natin and mga pamilya namin dun?"
Only the corrupt politicians and greedy businessmen benefit from the poor labor force. Yes, I was among the labor force and yes, poor us!
This is not a personal blow against our government or anything but I believe these are facts. Funny thing is, it's US FILIPINOS excelling in other countries. Yes, indeed. Here in my work, it's Filipino students topping the school, it's Filipino basketball imports playing for our school, it's Filipino teachers educating Thai students, it's a Filipino coach leading the Thai ABL team, it's Filipino players playing for Thailand Chang Team, it was a Filipino who made Thailand Chang team won last year, too many great Filipinos abroad...
